10 Ways to Help the Earth Through Corporate Mobility
From travel emissions to packing material waste, many moving parts can pose environmentally unsafe conditions when relocating. Here are some ways Altair Global and our network of trusted supplier partners work together to protect our environment and help the Earth.
Trucks, planes, buses, or cars—no matter where you’re going or how you’re getting there, most travel methods, unfortunately, can be harmful to the environment. As a relocation management company (RMC), Altair is committed to reducing waste with each corporate relocation and keeping the environment clean in as many ways as possible, including the below 10.
Partner for a Good Cause
Joining together with an organization that helps the environment with every move is a great way to help better the planet. We have partnered with Move For Hunger to eliminate food waste throughout each relocation since 2016, but have actively participated with the organization since 2012.
Discard and Donate
We offer the Discard and Donate program through Home Sweet Home that allows relocating employees to discard, sell, and/or donate items prior to their move. In doing so, employees have the opportunity to participate in a sustainable lifestyle rather than hoarding or trashing clothing that can still be used.
Planting Trees
Home Sweet Home also provides the Save a Tree, Plant a Tree program where, for every tree an employee “saves” by using their services to utilize fewer packing materials, Home Sweet Home has three trees planted by the U.S. Forest Service.
Limiting Idle Time for Vehicles
Making sure that household goods (HHG) suppliers limit their vehicle idle times is one of the environmentally efficient ways we work to lessen carbon emissions and reduce fuel waste during a corporate relocation.
Recycling Packing Materials When Moving
Our supplier partners repurpose packing materials where possible for future moves to help save trees and reduce their overall environmental footprint.
Showing “Green Houses”
Some of our real estate partners focus on showing relocating customers energy-efficient homes that include features designed to conserve and reduce energy use. This includes Energy Star-rated refrigerators, washing machines, and HVAC systems to use less energy and lower utility costs.
Using Electric Vehicles
Our supplier partners focus on lowering clients’ CO2 emissions by 30% with hybrid cars and by 80% with electric cars. These eco-friendlier options reduce mobility services’ carbon footprint by lowering climate impact.
Using Virtual Tours
Our real estate partners take a digital-first approach when it comes to home-buying, limiting the need for in-person visits. They conduct virtual tours using video, 3D tours, and interactive experiences to reduce travel time and carbon emissions.
Aerodynamic Trucks
Considering the aerodynamic efficiency of a truck is another helpful step our HHG suppliers make in reducing fuel consumption and polluting emissions by having less air resistance, which in turn requires less fuel when maintaining a speed.
Upgrade to Sustainable Equipment
Our supplier partners always look for various ways to “go green.” It can be something as simple as some corporate housing partners installing energy-efficient washing machines to eliminate water waste, while other partners make sure all temporary living grocery deliveries are completed with reusable shopping bags.
