AI used in Corporate Relocation

How AI is Utilized in Corporate Relocation

Artificial intelligence (AI) has made its impact across many industries, including corporate relocation, but in the human-focused industry of global mobility, how is AI being utilized?

The application of AI in the corporate relocation and mobility sector has been a learning experience with many questions: how to adopt it while adhering to company standards and best practices, what’s the best way to implement it for both relocating employees and mobility managers, and what can AI do for organizations that we haven’t considered yet? And still, more questions are sure to be imminent as AI becomes more prevalent in our daily lives. As for Altair Global, we welcome this next generation of technology and use it to enhance our Customer Experience (CX).

The Start of AI in Mobility

Many were hesitant to adopt AI, concerned about its impact on the workforce. After some time and consideration, mobility professionals realized that AI could not replicate the personal touch that real human interaction brings, which is an essential element in global mobility. Now, they are embracing it as a tool that provides great suggestions while promoting efficiency and streamlining work, all while still retaining the human element.

The industry, including both relocation management companies (RMCs) and client partners, has seen a shift as they experiment with AI. Some are adjusting to it slowly, while others have adopted it as part of their everyday routine, most commonly utilizing platforms like ChatGPT or Microsoft Copilot to rewrite emails, provide talking points, and gather insights on market trends.

Implementing AI in Corporate Relocation

“AI should be implemented thoughtfully, with the employee experience at the center. Few things are more frustrating than reaching out for support and getting no real help. In Global Mobility, AI must enhance—not replace—the human touch, serving as a tool to improve responsiveness and elevate personal support.”

– Mickey Calantropio, Vice President of Client Partner Experience, Altair Global

Author of WERC’s “Dear AI-bby”

AI is widely used to process and manage high volumes of information across many industries. Users employ it to summarize and compare policy documents, generate content, and help find critical resources. Not only does it help us as individuals, but it also benefits team collaboration by organizing deliverables and simplifying how to share and receive information.

AI technology was first embraced as a way to automate workflows. Now, as more users experiment with the tool, they realize it can enhance how people engage with information, make decisions, and navigate processes.

Mickey added that she can see potential for AI in mobility through tools that initiate first-touch communication for new authorizations or to manage calendars. She believes there are many areas within corporate relocation where AI can add value, such as:

The list goes on, and the possibilities are endless.

Navigating AI Concerns

With every new development, there will be concerns from anxious new users. In the corporate relocation industry, we must take extra steps to ensure that privacy and data security are crucial for compliance.

When trusted with sensitive data like client policy and process or personally identifiable information (PII), it’s imperative to follow your company’s AI policy and maintain company anonymity when using public AI tools. Understanding the potential risks is critical in safeguarding private information. It is recommended that, if your company does not have a policy or approach to the use of AI, you check with your HR, compliance, or technology team before entering prompts with sensitive information.

Another common concern is accuracy. While we often rely on AI to improve efficiency in our day-to-day work, AI-generated content still requires fact-checking and context.

“A common misconception is that AI is always right or inherently faster, but it really depends on the context and how it’s used. It can misinterpret tone or completely miss nuances in a prompt, which are especially important in a people-first industry like mobility.”

– Avery Chan, Experience Management and AI intern, Altair Global

While AI can provide rapid answers and streamline processes, human oversight remains essential in global mobility. AI cannot replicate empathy, judgment, or the cultural understanding that the industry requires—all key pillars of success in corporate relocation programs.

“Another misconception is that AI will replace human roles, when in reality its strength lies in supporting human expertise, amplifying empathy, and deepening cultural understanding and personal connection rather than trying to replicate them,” said Avery.

AI at Altair

There are still many AI developments yet to be explored, but Altair is approaching them carefully and with thought leadership, one step at a time.
In 2024, Altair launched Ali, our AI-powered virtual assistant for relocating employees. Ali is available to users in our STAR customer portal and can help answer questions regarding their relocation policy and benefits.

Our team developed Ali as a tool to enhance the customer experience, allowing Altair’s Relocation Consultants to focus more on providing strategic, high-touch support. Consultants can also monitor these chats to jump in and offer more expertise when necessary.

In its initial rollout phase, Ali answered more than 3,000 questions, with more questions being answered every day as Ali is used around the clock, giving users that true 24/7 support. Since its launch, 43% of users have returned to ask additional questions in multiple dialects, as Ali can also chat in 95 languages!

AI is not a replacement for people and never will be. But when implemented thoughtfully, it’s a powerful tool that can enhance global mobility experiences, drive efficiency, and add value across the corporate relocation journey.

We’re not just making it easier to move people. We’re making it easier for people to move.

Through our intuitive platforms, your employees can access relocation information on the go, and share feedback on their experience throughout every moment that matters.
